From Your Chamber President...........
Dear Members:
Already half of 2008 is behind us and we are still faced with a tenuous
economy. Gas prices are still climbing and as all of us are aware that alone affects
everything from the grocery store to auto sales.
By all accounts the Pundits report that the economy should show some stability
by fall but in the meantime it is going to be a rocky road.
To all our business members we want to wish you the best in weathering these
tough times.
The chamber is still holding the “It’s A Gas Raffle III” tickets can be purchased at
Minuteman Press or thru any chamber director. The drawing will be held at Koko’
s Restaurant—7:30 a.m. on July 7, 2008. Winner need not be present.
We hope to see all of you at the Hickory Hills Street Fair on Sunday, June 29,
2008 and at the Palos Friendship Festival from July 10 thru the 13th.
The chamber will be sponsoring the Hickory Hills Chapter of National Night
Out. We are also sponsoring the concert starting at 7:00pm featuring the Jimmy
Buffett Tribute Band Parrothead Express.
As all of you are aware the chamber is a non-profit organization. Our financial
survival is strictly based on membership revenue and the few fundraisers we have
per year. Our biggest fundraiser is our Golf Outing which will be held at the Palos
Golf Course on Wednesday, September 24, 2008. We hope you can join us.
The Chamber is inviting students to apply for the Hills Chamber
Scholarship. This scholarship is only available to students living in Hickory Hills
or Palos Hills. The applicant must demonstrate financial need, be active in school
or community services and in good academic standing with the school they have
attended or are attending. This scholarship is also available for adults in
continuing education. Applications must be received by September 30, 2008.
Completed forms should be either mailed to the Hills Chamber of Commerce, P.O.
Box 1164, Bridgeview, IL 60455 or fax your application to (708) 364-7735 or send
via attachment to info@thehillschamber.com. The chamber will notify the
scholarship recipients on or about November 15, 2008. For information on all
our events please call Donna Venezia at (708) 364-7739.
Like many companies and households the chamber has chosen to support
and implement plans to Go-Green. We strongly urge all our member businesses to
do their best to recycle everything from their old office equipment to paper
products. To support Go-Green the chamber has decided to start sending the
newsletters electronically via– email. Also as usual the newsletter is available
online in our News and Events section. This move will not only help in doing our
part for the environment but it will also help save the chamber money. If you
would like to advertise you still can as we can still ad your flyer to our electronic
newsletter or we can send an e-mail blast. For prices regarding these options please
